hunt.FM #89: “The Newness w/ Guest DJ Grouch”

Based in Toronto, Canada, Grouch has been deejaying since the late 80's and got his first start competing in the DMC & ITF DJ Battles in the mid 90's. He was crowned 1998 Western Hemisphere Team Champion as part of the Turnstylez Crew with partners Lil' Jaz & D-Scratch. He has also toured, and worked with Toronto heavyweights Kardinal Offishall, Saukrates & Choclair. Grouch has kept busy by being part of many North American Hip Hop Tours such as the Lyricist Lounge in 1999 (with Choclair) and the G-Unit Canada Tour (with Melanie Durrant).

Being a multi-facetted DJ working in radio, clubs, competitions and shows it was a natural progression for Grouch to evolve his talent in the art of production. Inspired by the Jeep Beat producers of the 90's such as Kenny Dope, The Nubian Crackers & Frankie Cutlass, Grouch has crafted the perfect balance between the 2 genres. The first track, Ah One Two Oye, samples the late great Salsa legend Hector Lavoe.

Aubrey “Drake” Graham is a Canadian actor, rapper and singer. So far he has released three mixtapes, 2006’s Room for Improvement, 2007’s Comeback Season, and 2009’s So Far Gone. He is in the beginning stages of recording his major label debut, tentatively titled Thank Me Later, which is projected to be released late 2009. The album is slated to include guest appearances by acts such as Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Danny! and others. He is also working on Dr. Dre’s upcoming album Detox, and has worked with Michelle Williams on her album Unexpected.

With six gifted and versatile producers, Vanguards Music are in full force with their production. Their creativity is unspeakable and these producers are able to cater to any genre. Vago and DJ Kemo (Vanguards/Rascalz-Canada) currently produced Angels Of Modern Destruction "Lap Dance 2010."

Angels of Modern Destruction is an American rock/pop/gothic group formed in 2009. It features band members Carrie Jones ("CJ") who was featured on the reality TV show Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious and Jordis Unga ("Jordis") who was featured on the reality competition Rock Star INXS. Grace Stanley ("Stanley") and Holly Rae are also members of the quartet.

'THE STARTING OF SCRATCH' IN REACH MAGAZINE SPECIAL EDITON

Prior to the JUNOS in Vancouver, BC, I got to find out what sets 'World Famous DJ Starting From Scratch' apart from every other DJ and how he's wanting to produced again.

He's known for 'Doin' it Like No Other' and being Flow 93.5 'Mix Show Magician.' He also has the reputation for being 'Canada's number one DJ.' He's pretty much your favorite DJs favorite DJ. No Joke!

DJ Starting From Scratch's resume is very impressive and to some highly inspirational. He's the official tour DJ for Russell Peters, Keisha Chante and toured with Usher for his 'One Night Stand Tour.' Clinton Sparks has asked him to be apart of his 'Smash Squad DJ Crew' and he's the only Canadian Representative for DJ Whoo Kid's 'Shadyville DJ's Coalition.' This man has won every single award you can possibly think of for a DJ and has worked with John Legend, Faith Evans, Amerie, Beenie Man, Kardinal Offishal and more in studio. For his 15 year anniversary as a DJ he was awarded gold and platinum records from Virgin, BMG and Universal. You can only wonder what he will receive for his 20 year anniversary.
